Alysha has lead criminal prosecutions on behalf of the Crown, Crown entities and government departments throughout her career, both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Alysha specialises in regulatory prosecutions and advice for the Commerce Commission, Maritime New Zealand and the New Zealand Transport Agency in particular. She has a wealth of experience leading cases under the Fair Trading Act, Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act and Health and Safety in Employment Act, among others.
Alysha is an experienced senior trial advocate who has prosecuted all manner of serious crime in the High Court and the District Court.
Acted as lead counsel for the Commerce Commission in the Court of Appeal in its first intervention in proceedings under the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act. (King v Norfolk Nominees Limited.)
Acted as counsel for NZTA in defence of a High Court appeal seeking to collaterally challenge the legality of the road tolling regime on the Northern Gateway Motorway. (Grueber v NZTA.)
Lead counsel for Maritime New Zealand on multiple cases alleging breaches of Health and Safety legislation, including three prosecutions over incidents resulting in fatalities and four prosecution for incidents resulting in serious harm.
