Jessica is a Principal in the Crown Specialist team. She provides a full range of advisory and advocacy services, primarily to government enforcement agencies. She also regularly conducts jury trials on behalf of the Crown.
Jessica conducts criminal prosecutions for a number of government departments and Crown entities including the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, WorkSafe New Zealand, New Zealand Customs Service, Department of Corrections and Department of Conservation. She also conducts civil litigation in the District Court and High Court on behalf of government and private clients.
In 2014/15, Jessica took study leave for one year to complete her LLM, specialising in criminal law at the University of Toronto. She joined Meredith Connell in 2010, and previously worked at Buddle Findlay in general litigation.
Acted for the Crown at the jury trial of an ADHB manager and ADHB contractor for fraud offending perpetrated against the ADHB (R v Munsamy and Paterson).
Acted for the New Zealand Customs Service at the trial and sentencing of a director and company for charges laid under the Crimes Act and Customs and Excise Act relating to the fraudulent importation and unlawful sale of tobacco (R v Shakib and Ormat Limited).
Acted for the Financial Markets Authority in the civil proceedings under the Securities Act against the directors of the Hanover group of finance companies (Financial Markets Authority v Hotchin & Ors).
