Why Join Us

MC is New Zealand's biggest litigation firm, by far. We are also specialists in dispute resolution and have a thriving advisory practice. If you are a successful 2-5 year PQE lawyer who wants to develop as a litigator, learn to resolve complex commercial and other disputes, or work directly with private clients, then MC would like to hear from you. We offer our lawyers the strongest and most comprehensive litigation training programme in Aotearoa New Zealand, an unbeaten commitment to wellness and work-life balance, competitive remuneration arrangements, unmatched opportunities to develop your client-relationship skills early in your career, and a clear path to partnership.

Training

Training

As New Zealand’s largest litigation firm, MC invests more in ongoing litigation training than any other law firm.  Developing good people isn’t a ‘nice to do’ – it’s what makes us succeed and we believe it's an investment for the whole legal profession.

Our newer lawyers learn directly from our top team. Before they first have to say ‘may it please your honour’ as a junior counsel before a judge, they are supported by someone much more experienced. MC is about today’s best litigators passing on their knowledge and expertise to the Crown Solicitors, King's Counsels, judges and corporate litigators of the future.

The MC Centre boasts a full training courtroom designed exactly like a courtroom at the Auckland High Court – the only training courtroom of its type in Australasia and perhaps the world.

Our training programme offers learning opportunities including Te Tiriti and He Whakaputanga, Te Ao Māori, Graduate Training, Criminal Litigation Skills, and Civil Litigation and Leadership Development.

In addition to the courtroom, MC’s commitment to training means the MC Centre features two large seminar rooms, a law library and a dedicated IT training room.

Sparked your interest?

Moving firms is a big decision and not something to be taken lightly.

If you are interested in learning more about what MC may offer your career, then the first step is to make confidential inquiries to our People team. They will contact you privately to discuss how your skills, knowledge, experience and ambitions may fit with the firm's growth strategy and ongoing recruitment needs.

If there appears to be a fit on both sides, a more formal process could then begin, including being asked to prepare a CV and meet with Susan Lord, our in-house Recruitment Specialist. Susan can connect you with the relevant partners within the practice area you are interested in.

MC has opportunities in Auckland and Wellington, depending on your interests within the law, and your personal and professional circumstances.
